HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU

The proposed housing developments will lead to increased traffic congestion, pollution, and strain on local infrastructure such as roads, schools, and healthcare facilities. Charminster enjoys a relatively low population density, fostering a close-knit community atmosphere that is rare and precious in today’s world. Rapid expansion jeopardizes this environment as new housing developments will bring over 500 new homes, altering the social fabric of our small village. Don’t forget, that the five proposed developments in and around Charminster totalling 560 new homes are in addition to the 3,600 proposed new homes just north of Dorchester – the Norchester development.

Moreover, the ecological impact of such development would be substantial. Charminster is home to diverse plant and wildlife species that could be displaced or permanently harmed by construction activities. Green spaces that serve as vital habitats and recreational areas for residents would be compromised, affecting the local biodiversity.

According to local data, Dorset has seen a rise in housing developments by approximately 30% over the past five years, leading to significant environmental and social challenges. Rather than continuing this unsustainable path, we urge the Dorset local authorities to consider alternate solutions such as refurbishing existing buildings, utilising vacant properties, and implementing robust community planning that reflects the needs of residents.
